Brilliant Clegg shines in the decathlon at Bedford

Competing in his first ever decathlon in the National Combined Event Championships at Bedford on May 28/29th, Alexander Clegg finished a brilliant 4th and 3rd in the incorporated Midland championships in a club record score of 5905 points in the U20 event  and recorded or equalled 6 personal bests en route.

 

He started day 1 with a pb in the 100m with 11.98s and followed this up with another pb of 6.01m in the Long Jump. In the next event the shot he was just short of his recent pb with 11.23m and then equalled his pb in the high jump with a leap of 1.75m. Alex rounded off day 1 with 53.13s in the 400m to rank 7th overall.

 

Alex opened day 2 with a pb in the 110m H in a time of 16.86s and then threw a pb in the Discus of 32.42m. In the Pole vault he recorded his second highest height ever with 3.23m before unleashing a pb in the Javelin with a might throw of 46.04m, the second longest in the competition. However he saved the best until last and found the energy to win the final event the 1500m by 11 seconds in a magnificent 4m 29.75s.  

 

His score beat the previous club record by over 400 points.
