136th Wenlock Olympian Games
William Penny Brookes, a local doctor, who lived in Much Wenlock, recognising the importance of physical education, started the Games in 1850.
These historic games, inspired Baron de Coubertin to found the International Olympic Committee, which held the first Olympic Games in Athens in 1896.
They are held at the Much Wenlock leisure Centre on a 200m tartan track.
