Brilliant BRAT performances at recent Championships

New member Mike Bowler smashed the senior decathlon record at the Senior/U23 England Athletics combines events championships, incorporating the BUCS championships, at a Bedford on May 26/27th, scoring a very impressive 7263pts and taking the BUCS title , whilst finishing with the silver medal in the EA Championship. Also breaking the previous club record was the previous holder Alex Clegg , who scored 5766pts, finishing 11th in both the BUCS and EA U23 championship.

Success continued at the Midland senior championships at Nuneaton on June 10th, where Prince Ahey won the 110m Hurdles title in 16.00s, whilst Jonathan Briggs won the shot with a put of 12.76m

Not to be outdone our juniors recorded  some fine performances representing South Birmingham Schools at the West Midlands Schools championships at Alexander Stadium  on June 9th. Pride of place went to another new  member , Josh Hale, who won the Inter Boys(U17) 400m in a club record time of 50.2s, which currently ranks him 12thin the UK, a record which has stood since 1983! Also in the inter boys Charles Harvey was 10th in the 100m in 12.3s and Jamie Cooper 10th in the 800m in 2m 18.1s.

In the Junior Girls(U15) age group Keira Valentine recorded pb’s in both 200m, 11th in 29.5s and Long Jump 7th with a leap of 4.03m.

Josephine Williams enjoyed a brilliant day in the year 7 (u13G) competitions coming 2nd in the 100m in 14.0s and winning the shot with a put of 7.73m, both pb’s. Eve Godsal in the same age group was 6th in the 100m in 14.7s and 4th in the javelin with a throw of 18.01m , both pb’s.

In the corresponding boys events for year 7, Zac Humphries continued his good form in the long jump coming 3rd with 4.17m and Morgan Hill ran a pb in the 1500m of 5m 16.7s, finishing 6th.
