Yet another shining performance – T&F League Report

Yet another shining performance – T&F League Report

The BRAT senior athletics team followed up its good start to the season with an even better performance at Worcester on Saturday 2nd June.

We had many individual winners on the day; Mike Bowler, fresh from his brilliant second place last weekend in the decathlon at the English Athletics Championships, on his debut for the club did a fantastic treble – pole vault A, 110 hurdles A and discus A. Fellow decathlete, Alex Clegg did the double in the pole vault B and 110 hurdles B as did Jordan Foley in the long jump and triple jump A with perfect back up from John Philip Stolberg who won both the B jumps. James Colclough (400 B) and Igor Huszak (Javelin B) also produced stand out performances as did Josh Hale, on his debut for the club, in winning the 400 A race.

Starring for the women’s team were Amelia Rouse (another debutant) winning the long jump A and Molly Browne who won a closely fought 800 A race.

At the end of the day we came second overall which really was an excellent result. Two athletes ‘maxed out’ on their events – Alex Clegg and Kate Franklin did the full seven events allowed for a single athlete!

As for the performance of the day, I’m going to give it to three people this time as I simply can’t split them; Josh Hale winning the men’s 400 in 50.4secs and this from an under 17 athlete! Mike Bowler’s winning vault of 4.40m which is a very long way up in the air – plus his entertaining ‘discussions’ with our own officials! And finally, Henry Brocklehurst, who was at a wedding ceremony at midday, dashed over from the church to line up for the men’s 1500 metre race, finished second, and then sped off again to join the evening celebrations in Cirencester! Only with BRAT could that happen.

The third meeting is on Saturday 7th July at Abingdon. Please make yourselves available by emailing me at athletics@bratclub.co.uk. We’ve made a great start to the season but things can quickly change if you don’t get a full team out.
