🥉 The Battle for Bronze: All Hands on Deck for the Season Finale!

🥉 The Battle for Bronze: All Hands on Deck for the Season Finale!

This Sunday, the West Midlands Young Athletes Cross Country League concludes at Wolverhampton—and we have a massive opportunity.

After four grueling races through mud, rain, and hills, BRAT currently sits in 4th place overall. We have had some spectacular individual performances and strong squad turnouts, but the job isn’t done yet.

We have one clear target for the final race: Catch Birchfield Harriers.

The Mission: Overtake Birchfield

We are currently chasing Birchfield Harriers for that podium spot. The gap is real, but it is absolutely bridgeable. In cross-country, points aren’t just won by the athletes at the front—they are won by the sheer volume of teammates crossing the finish line.

If we field full teams in every age group, the swing in points can be enormous. We have the talent to take 3rd place, but we can only do it if we out-number and out-run them this Sunday.

📢 A Special Call to Our Girls’ Squads

To be blunt: We need you.

Looking at the scoresheets, our Boys’ teams (U11, U13, U15, and U17) have been racking up consistent high scores, with the U11 Boys currently sitting in a fantastic 2nd place and U13 Boys in 3rd.

However, our standing has taken a hit where we haven’t been able to field full teams, particularly in the Girls’ age groups (U13 and U15).

  • To our female athletes: You have the power to make the biggest difference this weekend. Simply by turning up and finishing, you add hundreds of points to the club’s total that we otherwise lose by default.
  • To parents: Please make every effort to get your daughters to the start line. This is the weekend where their presence counts double!

Why You Matter (Yes, YOU!)

You might think, “I’m not the fastest, so my points don’t matter.” Wrong. Every BRAT vest that crosses the line pushes an opposition runner further down the list. A full B-team or C-team displaces other clubs’ scorers and denies them points. In a chase for 3rd place, the runner finishing 40th is just as valuable to the team calculation as the runner finishing 1st.
