This was our first real league fixture since 2019. We are currently in division 3 and our aim is to be promoted at the end of the season. We had one fixture (that we won) last year, but that didn’t count towards promotion due to it being a fixture based on location rather than the actual teams in our league. This time around, we were up against Bromsgrove & Redditch, Tamworth, Bicester, Corby and a few other teams. To say that we won would be an understatement. Of the 8 gender/age groups on the day, ranging from u11g to u17m, we won EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. We scored a total of 819.5 points, with second and third places scrapping it out between themselves on 457 and 448 respectively. We scored almost the same number of points as the next two teams combined!
How did we manage to pull this off? There are a number of factors, but to name a few:
- Strength in depth: We managed to fill all events with 2 athletes apart from 6.
- Standout performances: Not only did we fill the events, but we finished first or in the top 3 in many of them.
This is a testament to both our athletes’ ability and to the coaching and team we have working behind the scenes to make this all happen. The coaches at the track make themselves available to cater for a huge array of events, so our athletes can develop both their core and peripheral events.
Genuinely, there are too many standout performances and PBs to mention. I kindly ask you to refer to the full results to see these. But, a worthy note is Lily Smith’s long jump club record of 5.28m in the u17 age group. Also, the u17 ladies 4x100m relay team was a sublime example of how baton changing should be done, leading them to a comfortable victory, both in the relay and overall.
