Volunteers wanted

The Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022 is fast approaching and we have been invited to provide specialist volunteers which are roles that could be filled by UKA licensed officials.
Sign up on the official Birmingham 2022 website.

There is now a closing date placed on the volunteer application process. The closing date will be the Thursday 22nd July.

If you want to volunteer for Triathlon Events you can find the codes here.

These are not National Technical Official (NTO) roles which will be selected separately through the normal UKA processes along with the local organising committee.

In addition to the NTO roles, there are a number of great opportunities for ‘Sport Specialist’ volunteer roles and along with England Athletics, we have agreed with the organising committee that UKA licensed officials would be best placed to deliver against a number of these roles.

Please find below the three Sport Specialist Volunteer codes for Athletics. Please note that UKA licensed officials using the codes MUST apply through the normal application process but the code is a filtering mechanism for CG2022 to identify appropriate individuals more effectively. Please also note that the use of a code does not automatically guarantee an applicant a role at the Games. The code will need to be entered in the exact format below, so please enter the code in capitals on page four of the volunteer application form. Each volunteer can enter one code only on their application form.

  • SPT-ATH
  • RTS-ATH
  • SPP-ATH

The SPT-ATH includes the roles we would all recognise behind the scenes as volunteer roles around the stadium etc. The other two codes (RTS and SPP) are available for those colleagues who may have an interest in the other Functional Areas such as “RTS – Results, Timing and Scoring” and “SPP – Sport Presentation and Medals”.

The selection process for NTO’s is yet to commence and anyone unsuccessful in gaining an NTO role might be able to fall back onto a volunteering role, you must apply for a volunteer role to be considered for an NTO role. Anyone who is successful in gaining an NTO role can then be removed from the general volunteer process at that point.

The volunteer application form will be accessed via a portal on the Birmingham 2022 website and is available for a couple of weeks. CG2022 want to encourage suitable individuals within their network to apply early. Volunteers will need to register before they can log in the portal to complete the application form. Registration is open now and will remain open
for the duration of the application period.

Following the close of applications, the shortlisting process will begin in July. Volunteer selection centres will run from September to December 2021 and volunteer offers will be sent in January 2022.
