Wrexham Final Fling & Much Wenlock Olympic Games

The weekend of 25th & 26th September was the Junior BRATs last chance to improve on their PBs and alter their standings in the Club Championships before the season came to a close.

U15 Jamie Callaghan travelled to Wrexham to take part in a throwathon which consisted of hammer, discus, shot and javelin.  Jamie finished 3rd overall with 1833 points, just 42 points behind 1st place.  He won 2 x silvers and 2 x bronzes and threw 3 PBs, with his best being a hammer throw of 42.29m – just 19cm off of the club record, and a throw which moved him up to 9th in the UK rankings!

The other BRATs took part in the Much Wenlock Olympic Games on Sunday 26th. U11’s William Tinsley, Tiernan Clark, Jake Holford, Oshi Knox, Millie Gordon-Maclean and Josephine Colclough all ran PBs in the 75m with Oshi securing a bronze medal with a time of 11.8.

There were also BRAT sprinters in the 100m with U17 Kori Rose winning silver in a time of 12.2, U15 Freddie DuCroz bronze and a PB (13.6), U15 May Smith bronze and a PB (13.9) and U13 Robert Lee silver and a PB (13.3).  There were also PBs for Anthony Golding (13.8), Dylan Gargett (14.8) and T’yana Josephs (14.4).

Robert Lee won a second medal of the day with a PB of 28.8 in the 200m to win bronze.  U11’s Mustopha Bailey and William Tinsley made it to the finals of the 200m, but were pipped to the post and finished 4th and 5th.  The U15 girls Isla O’Connor and Bonheur Tshibola both ran PBs (27.4 and 27.7) and won silver and bronze respectively and U13 T’yana Josephs won silver.  U13’s Jessica Midgley, Noor Bailey and Amira Emery all ran a PB (32.3, 34.3, 34.3) and just missed out on the final.

There were also medals and PBs a plenty in the field events, with U13 Noor Bailey winning silver with a high jump of 1.05 and Robert Lee his 3rd medal of the day with a PB of 4.48m and gold in the long jump.  The shot was a popular event with U13 Dylan Gargett wining gold with a PB throw of 7.23m and 5 U15 girls entering.  They finished 1st – 5th so an all BRAT podium which is a great sight to see.  Bonheur secured gold with a throw of 8.80, Isla silver with a PB of 8.10, Lily Smith bronze with 7.83, Isabelle Carruthers 4th with a PB of 7.80 and May Smith 5th with 7.16

Think I’ve managed to capture all the PBs and medals, but please advise if anything has been missed – there were so many which is a fantastic achievement.  Prize to whoever is 1st to get the correct number of PBs, Golds, Silvers and Bronzes in the comments section!!
