English Schools XC Champs
A small number of BRAT’s achieved the fantastic honour of representing the West Midlands School team and Worcestershire schools at the ESAA English Schools Cross Country Championship’s in Hop Farm, Kent.
The weather was more like that of the track season and not cross country, and the course was extremely flat and fast with hardly any mud! The first race of the day to include BRAT athletes was the Junior boys. Jack Price was our 1st athlete home in 191st place, this is a fantastic achievement considering it’s only Jack’s second ever cross country! Niklas Van Mourik was next in 271st place after getting spiked early on in the race.
In the Inter boys race we had 3 athletes competing. Will Walker was first home in 135th after being dead last at the start of the race, he was followed home by Morgan Hill in 221st and finally Dylan Teasdale in 299th.
The final race of the day was the senior boys with Alex Dickson the sole representative, unfortunately due to an issue with his timing chip he hasn’t currently been added to the results, but hopefully this will be corrected.
Well done to all of those that competed. This is one of the best quality events of the whole athletics calendar!
Midland Road Championships…..(not the 5k expected!)
After a late change to the distance and course 4 u13 BRAT athletes took part in the Midland Road Race championships at Sutton Park. Those of you that have run at Sutton Park will know that it is an extremely tough course as you are either climbing or descending. Josh Taylor was first home in 12th place, Diego Dalmedo 20th place and Alastair Fleming in 23rd. The team placed 4th overall, missing out on a medal by 5 points! Arriella was our sole representative in the same race finishing 11th overall. Well done guys!
In the u15 race, run over the same shortened course, George Astbury came home in 14th and Jack Price in 20th. Lauren Hevey was our sole female competitor finishing in 36th place.
The under 17 race was actually a 5k race, Morgan Hill was first home in 17.17 for 12th, Alex Dickson 14th in 17.25, Tom Burdett 19th in 17.58 and Oscar Fleming in 23rd 18.30. Alex, Morgan and Tom completed the team to finish 2nd overall. Poppy Close finished 7th in 22.04 the u17 girls race and Innes Villalobos Finnegan 13th 25.13. Good effort everyone!
