BRAT Juniors return to action!

BRAT Juniors return to action!
10/09/2020 by Chrisdavy

With COVID restrictions being lifted and pilot meetings having been completed, the last couple of weekends have seen a number of BRAT Juniors in action.

U15’s Lily Smith, May Smith and Mali Lloyd-Griffiths all had an early start in Nuneaton on Sunday 30th August with the 100m. Lily and Mali were also in the Long Jump, with Mali improving on her PB by 3cm to jump over 5 metres – one of only 26 U15 girls to jump over 5m this year, with Lily also being one of them!

May tried a new distance of 300m and achieved a PB of 48.48, Morgan Hill secured a PB in the 800m with a time of 2 mins 29 and Jamie Callaghan throwing as an U15 for the 1st time, a PB in the discus with a distance of 26.03m.

U11 Erin McDaid travelled to Charnwood and achieved a PB in both the 75m and 150m, knocking 1 ½ seconds off of her 150m time!

The following weekend saw nine BRATs travel to Rugby.  U11’s Erin McDaid and Amira Emery took part in a triathlon style event which consisted of a 600m, a 75m and a long jump.  Erin achieved a PB in the long jump by jumping an additional 15cm and also the 600m, improving by 10 seconds! The girls had a close 600m race, with Amira just 1 second behind Erin.

The afternoon saw the U13 and U15 events take place.  Alba Smith-Pena’s first outing as an U13 saw her achieve PBs in both the 800m and 1500m with times of 3mins 11 and 6mins 24 respectively.  Morgan Hill also did both the 800m and 1500m, where he beat his PB in the 800m from the previous week by a second.

Tywana Kuluziza, Mali, Lily and May all ran in the 100m, with Mali, Lily and May also doing the 200m.  Mali secured a PB in the 200m, knocking off 0.57 seconds to achieve a time of 27.5.  Unfortunately due to the venue altering event times Jamie was not able to run his 200m as it clashed with the discus where he was just 33cm behind the throw from the previous week.  May equalled her PB in the long jump with 4.07m and Lily was just 12cm off her PB with a jump of 4.92m.
