Sportshall Athletics. If there was ever a form of organized chaos in athletics. This is it. The degree to which it is organized or chaotic varies from match to match and from club to club, but I’d like to think that BRAT veer slightly towards the organized side of things. It’s somewhat surprising, given the number of new faces we see taking part, not knowing quite what to expect. In Matt’s absence, I had the please of giving out the numbers. This gave a me a great opportunity to assess the general feeling of our athletes. I’d say that there were a lot of nerves on show, so congratulations to all of you that felt nervous at the start but conquered those nerves to put in some great performances.
Our u15g team won overall and our u15b were pipped to first place by a handful of points. Out of our 14 u15 athletes, only 4 had done it before! Erin McDaid took the top spot in the u15g individual results with a strong all-round performance which included a first place in the speed bounce.
Other first place performers as follows:
- Lombe in the u11b speed bounce
- Joshua in the u13b 2 lap and long jump
- Palia in the u13g shot
- Hiba in the u13g speed bounce
- Davyn in the u15b 2 lap and long jump
- Amerei in the u15g 2 lap and long jump
- Noor & Erin tied first in the u15g speed bounce
Our u11 and u13 teams included a large number of athletes that have never competed before. Sportshall Athletics is all abou t getting involved and having a go at something new and something different. Our new athletes had a good go, and we were certainly competitive across all events in all age groups.
Standout moment of the day, I’m torn between the u13b relay team narrowly missing out on first place despite 2 athletes falling over and the u15b & u15g teams winning both relays!
Well done team!
