February’s ‘Meet the Triathlete’ catches up with one of BRAT Club’s highest performing triathletes. Having finished in 7th place at the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final in Lausanne 2019, we were delighted to get to know a little more about ultra speedy: Lauren Turvey!
Super Saturday (part 1)
Saturday 8th February saw the BRAT ladies XC team head down to Leamington for the final race of the 2019/20 XC league campaign. It was still all to play for with BRAT sitting in 4th position behind Loughborough students, Birchfield and Birmingham students. The Leamington course didn’t disappoint with the usual mix of hills, mud, open country and the infamous ditch.A fantastic team effort by Eloise, Beccy T, Anne K and Molly saw BRAT overhaul Loughborough and move back into third place overall. This was topped off by Molly winning 3rd place in the individual standings. Thanks should go to all who have competed this season (many pictured above in the unseasonal sunshine yesterday) as this has produced a brilliant team atmosphere on race days.
Midland XC Championships 2020
Saturday 25th January saw runners from across the midlands set up camp at Prestwold Hall in Loughborough for the Midland XC Championships. With the numbers collected, a walk around the course confirmed that the new route for 2020 would be challenging and heavy going … perfect! A number of BRAT juniors ran very well in the earlier races (U13G, U15B, U17B). Lauren Hevey came 97th in U13Girls, Tom Burdett 19th and Morgan Hill 78th in U15 Boys and Rueben Kite 21st in U17 men. Then it was suddenly time for the BRAT women to take to the start line. The course was two laps with lots of mud, a log to jump and a steep hill to contend with. The gun went and as expected it was a quick start on what felt like the only downhill section of the course. A leading pack went off early and soon there…

Midlands Road relays
On a lovely and pleasant Saturday,….if anyone can remember what that is ! BRATS were there in force; dominant over all others in numbers having with six teams, and a strong A team to boot. The B team were looking a real potential force to qualify, but illness hit their team making qualification it a tall order. The six stage when compared with the twelve in Spring; has always been more difficult for us to shine, however, we are not traditionalists. The best of the Midlands all in our sights. First leg, just like an “old man’s” particular seat in a pub had Dan’s name on it (He is a veteran, so appropriate). There were four athletes away: Bath, Bristol, Bath, Newcastle and Dan; who took on the lead on the way down to the lake. A great performance and pb putting us into 4th position. Karl was flying, overhauling…
BRAT Summerfield Smash 5k – Results
Provisional results for the BRAT Summerfield Smash 5k.
Tooth and Claw at Div. 2!
A frantic final day relegation fight between BRAT athletes and the Wolves resulted in success for us… Sunday 4th August saw the final meeting of the Midland Senior Athletics League season at Wolverhampton & Bilston. After the first three meetings Gloucester and Rugby were all but assured of promotion to division one, whilst Coventry were safe in mid-table and Cheltenham had already been relegated. So it came down to a straight fight between BRAT and the Wolves. In what turned out to be a tense affair, Wolves taking an early lead, we somehow managed to overhaul their total with some excellent individual performances and a great overall team effort to finish on an impressive 341 points, just a single point behind Gloucester (342), one ahead of Rugby (340) and most importantly ahead of Wolves on 290. Making BRAT debuts were Rosalie and Rosette Nyanguile, Nicole Travasso, plus Ben Beaumont and…
Silver For Lily at Midlands
A silver medal was the reward for BRAT under 13 athlete Lily Smith in the Quadrathlon event at this weekend’s Midland Championships. After running 13.50 in the 100m and throwing a pb of 6.72m in the shot, Lily put herself into medal contention. Another pb in the 600m of 1.50.28 and a leap of 4.88m in the long jump put her just 200 points behind the eventual winner – a great achievement all round, especially considering the size of the task given the height advantage the girls in first and third place had over Lily – See pic ! Her score of 3586pts was a club record, surpassing the previous held by Josie Williams by nearly 500 points. This was Lily’s 11th club record this year, a magnificent achievement. Also breaking the club record was U13 Boy Jamie Callaghan in the boys quadrathlon with a score of 1342points, recording 3.36m…
Concrete Cows and PB Fest
Yesterday afternoon a veritable small army of BRATs headed south to not so sunny Milton Keynes. Not only is MK the host of the (in)famous concrete cows but is also the host of the MK 5000m PB Special Open Meeting. The scorchio conditions from earlier in the week had relented and the rain from earlier in the day had passed, leaving cool calm conditions ideal for distance running. The meeting kicked off at 15:15 with the first of 12 consecutive paced and graded 5000m races culminating with the ladies and men’s elite races which included the England Athletics Champs. The meeting lived up to its name with a flurry of BRAT PB’s or SB’s. 19:48.68 Rachel Farquhar (PB)19:43.69 Eloise Lee (PB)19:39.38 Rob Dowse (SB)19:15.50 Anne Kenchington (PB)18:24.64 Damian Cartland (PB)17:25.83 Chris Burrows (PB)16:46.26 Thanos Tsolakis (PB)16:26.63 Abayomi Adedimeji (PB)16:20.51 Steve Dunsby (SB)15:30.36 Mark Ince (PB)15:15.81 Dan Robinson (PB) Despite feeling unwell Molly…
