The 2021 Inter Regional Championships took place at Mallory Park, Leicestershire, on 11th September. Alba Smith-Pena competed in Tristar 3 representing the West Midlands: (Triathlon) 300m swim / 2.6km bike / 1.2km Run and classified for the B final. The best junior triathletes in the U.K. and Jersey competed on the day, and Alba finished 48th overall. It was a very good experience for Alba and she cannot wait to give it a go again next year, when she will still be in the Tristar 3 category.  The Black Country / Wombourne Junior Triathlon took place on Saturday 18th September which is part of the Triathlon England Junior West Midlands Series.  BRAT had two competitors – Jemima Jackson and Alba Smith-Pena.  Jemima came 3rd in her category which is a fantastic achievement.  Unfortunately Alba did not see the official telling her that she was due the last two laps swimming…

Junior Triathlete Alba smith-pena to represent west-midlands in national inter-regional triathlon championships Alba Smith-Pena, one of our juniors, has shown her multi-sport prowess by being selected by Triathlon England West Midlands to represent the West Midlands Region at the National Inter-Regional Championships (IRC) on 11th September at Mallory Park. The IRC are one yearly event as part of the British Triathlon Under 20’s Festival. They are an opportunity for some of the best girls and boys across both TriStar2 and 3 age groups in each of the 10 English Regions, Scotland, Wales and Jersey to race against each other. Alba qualified at Sandwell Triathlon earlier in the season, which was the qualifying event for this year.  She is one of the 4 girls in TriStar3 who will represent the West Midlands at the IRC – well done Alba!!! May brings another opportunity to meet one of the BRAT Club’s triathletes. This month it’s ‘remote BRAT’ Rosie Davies. She may no longer be based in Birmingham but Rosie trains and races proudly in her BRAT kit all through the year.

Well, we find ourselves in uncharted waters, but just like a swimmer in open water, who can’t seem to see the next turn buoy no matter how hard he looks, we know if we keep working hard, we will get to the finish line soon enough! Here’s a super profile to keep you going in the mean time – meet Colin Bailey – new to triathlon, but no stranger to running and athletics. He’s now one of BRAT’s core junior athletics coaches, and a triathlete in his spare time…!
