BRAT Juniors Represent Birmingham at the Regional Sportshall Final!

Following on from our attendance in the league matches over the last few months we were delighted to have 10 BRAT athletes selected to represent Team Birmingham at the regional final on Sunday 19th March.

There was a fantastic atmosphere in North Solihull Sports Centre as 4 teams from across the wider West Midlands region came together in the regional final – Birmingham, Herefordshire & Worcestershire, Shropshire and Warwickshire

The day kicked off with the Under 11s events and BRAT representation came from Elliot Jones and Kai Macmillan in the Birmingham boys team.

There was plenty of action in the track events, with some very close races including some new events that did not form part of the league meetings – well done Kai for tackling the Over/Under relay without any prior knowledge of what it involved!

On the field events, there were jumps, throws and balancing all taking place. Elliot claiming a brilliant 3rd place jump in the Standing Triple Jump and Kai matching with a 3rd place in the Standing Long Jump.

The results came in and it was a very close finish – with Warwickshire claiming victory in both the boys and girls events – Team Birmingham coming in a close second place, just 9 and 4 points behind the leaders respectively!

In the afternoon it was the turn of the Under 13 and Under 15 teams….

BRAT had a strong presence in the afternoon with Benjamin Dawson in the U15 boys, Adhvaith Prabhakaran, Maximillian Bone and Dominic Moynihan for the U13 boys and Leanna Rendell and Erin McDaid in the U13 girls.

The athletes all completed in multiple individual and team events on the track and in the field.  Notable achievements were a gold medal for the U13 circuit relay for Leanna, gold medal in the 8 lap paarlauf for Erin as well as a place in the 4 lap final and a silver medal for Adhvaith in the 6 lap race. Benjamin competed in the nail biting 4×2 relay, their team got gold!

Team Birmingham did very well overall coming in in second place and the U13 girls team came in first overall.  The boys U15 and U13 came a close second place.  Congratulations to Erin and Leanna who will be heading to the National Sporthall competition representing the West Midlands on April 1st!  Great achievement.

Thanks to Rebecca & Emilie for putting this write-up together.
