U13’s Erin McDaid and Alba Smith-Pena travelled to Cheltenham on 2nd May for some multi-event action.  Alba competed in the High Jump, Long Jump and 800m where she achieved a PB of 2.48.  Erin was 1st in the howler, 4th in the 70m hurdles with a time of 12.87, 3rd in long jump with 3.48m,  3rd in the speed bounce and 3rd in the 100m.  It’s surprising Alba had any energy left after competing in the Oldbury White Horse Children’s Triathlon the day before.  The Tri-Star 3 consisted of a 250m swim, 4km grass cycle and a 2km run.  Having not competed for over a year she finished an impressive 10th out of 22.  Well done girls

True to Spring, the weather has been changeable, to say the least. Whilst the first session back at the track last week enjoyed unseasonably high temperatures, last night’s session brought us crashing back down with sub-zero temperatures accompanied by a blizzard and biting winds.  In spite of the sudden drop in temperatures, it was fantastic to see a massive turnout of both the junior and senior training groups. Not only that, a number of new faces in the junior groups braved the weather and completed their first session with the BRAT family. As they were finishing, the dedicated seniors were just getting started, going through the first 400m of their sessions in a mightily quick 61 seconds!  If you want to be part of the fantastic BRAT team, get in touch!

Dear Members, I’m delighted to say that the Government guidance permits BRAT to start resuming activities from Monday 29th March!  Our coaches and leaders have been working hard to keep everyone engaged during the lockdown (and the previous tiered madness…!) and we sincerely hope that this will have been the final time we have to suspend training. We’re all looking forward to getting back out there and training together, and below are some headlines referring to our return to training:  All the information around booking sessions is available via this page:  https://bratclub.co.uk/training-with-the-brat-club/ ALL sessions must be booked in advance on Clubspark. Specific information about Junior Athletics including training fees can be found here.  2021 Membership is now available on Clubspark – all members will need to sign up via Clubspark (the old website is now closed). Adult track fees will be pay as you go in the first instance, although…

The BRAT Club wishes everyone a happy and safe new year, we are looking forward to returning to a more normal  routine later in the year. Unfortunately for now with Birmingham in tier 4 this means that all of our adult sessions are currently suspended. Tier 3 in Worcestershire also means the Bromsgrove swim session has been cancelled until further notice. We are hoping that we can continue with junior athletics sessions, and the coaches will communicate this info directly to parents and athletes going forwards. For now then, we are back to solo and virtual training. Zwift has been great for us, providing some real focus and club atmosphere on the discord chat, so that will continue. Again, the club would like to thank all the coaches, leaders, volunteers and members who put so much into this club and have kept such a strong spirit going throughout the past…

Despite this being a year when most of our athletes haven’t competed, some have taken part in the limited competitions that have taken place and were rewarded by achieving Amateur Athletic Association (AAA) standards.
