Club History
As a result of previous mergers by former athletics clubs in Birmingham and Black Country area, the club has over 100 years of athletics heritage. Here is a brief synopsis of our history:

Right, here it is, the biggest social event of the year. It’s been a few years since we had an in-person presentation evening where all the club gets to celebrate, but we are back! This event is an opportunity for our athletes to spend time with their teammates and friends as we come together as a club to celebrate our successes over the past year. There will be a host of awards to be given out, along with baking competitions, quizzes, music and more. Who should attend Everyone! We would like as many of you to attend as possible, regardless of whether you are new to the club or you have been with us for years. Updated Athletics Club Rankings
A Happy New Year to all our members. 2021 has seen some remarkable personal improvements in athletics and the final list of 2021 performances for the club is now available to view, together with updated all-time club records and age-group best performance lists. In 2021, there were 3 new overall club records broken and 32 club age-best performances. There were also an amazing number of personal best performances following the club’s return from the 2nd lockdown from COVID-19 in March 2021. Access to the rankings lists is HERE. Farewell Ruth
We’re sad to say that after 6 years of coaching the BRAT throwers, Ruth Briggs is moving on. She is relocating to pastures new in Somerset, and we wish her all the best in her new venture. BRAT are extremely grateful to Ruth for everything she has contributed to the club – not only has she coached discus, shot and hammer, she has also officiated as a Level 2 Field Official at numerous events and been instrumental in organising the AAA Awards for the athletes. Ruth started coaching BRATs in 2015 on Friday nights at the High Performance Centre. Her son Jonathan was being coached by Paul Chapman and he had also been training Ruth in throwing techniques for as long as Jonathan had been with him. We have endeavoured to provide the most accurate list of athletics ‘known’ performances and include the following lists: Club rankings of all athletics performances by club members All-time club athletics records All-time club age-best performances for each athletics event All-time top-10 performances for each age group and each athletics event. BRAT is BACK!
Dear Members, I’m delighted to say that the Government guidance permits BRAT to start resuming activities from Monday 29th March! Our coaches and leaders have been working hard to keep everyone engaged during the lockdown (and the previous tiered madness…!) and we sincerely hope that this will have been the final time we have to suspend training. WELCOME TO 2021
The BRAT Club wishes everyone a happy and safe new year, we are looking forward to returning to a more normal routine later in the year. Unfortunately for now with Birmingham in tier 4 this means that all of our adult sessions are currently suspended. Tier 3 in Worcestershire also means the Bromsgrove swim session has been cancelled until further notice. We are hoping that we can continue with junior athletics sessions, and the coaches will communicate this info directly to parents and athletes going forwards. For now then, we are back to solo and virtual training. Zwift has been great for us, providing some real focus and club atmosphere on the discord chat, so that will continue. Again, the club would like to thank all the coaches, leaders, volunteers and members who put so much into this club and have kept such a strong spirit going throughout the past…
